Balenciaga’s Spring-Summer Collection for 2018

Balenciaga’s Spring-Summer Collection for 2018

About a month ago it was fashion-week in some parts of the world. Fresh women’s wear collections for Spring/Summer 2018 were presented once again. Balenciaga showed in Paris. Below the most demure looks of the pret-a-porter show. One of our favorites because these outfits really seem to be an instant a holiday-trip to us!
Greetings from Amsterdam,
xoxo Mimi

Worth mentionable is the fact that Balenciaga asked the Crocs brand if they could produce a platform shoe. They could. Result: the ‘Foam’ shoes, lightweight-odor-free-water-resistant-fully-molded-platform-Crocs in Croslite™ material.

According to Highsnobiety blog the Balenciaga Triple S sneaker was the most spotted sneaker on the feet of the audience. (See that street-style sneaker report here at highsnobiety.com it’s fun!) We wonder if the Foam platforms will be equally popular, what do you think?

Fashion by Acne Studios Fall/Winter 2017 for Men

Fashion by Acne Studios Fall/Winter 2017 for Men

Acne Studios’ Jonny Johansson was inspired by “Keanu Reeves’s swollen face.” for the fall/winter 2017 men’s collection. (we read that on vogue .com)

From the Acne Studios Press Release: “I realised that businessmen don’t exist anymore, even though the world has chosen business. It led me to think about working men in the 80s, and how they fetishised their clothing. I wanted to bring that same respect for fabric and shape to this collection.”  – Jonny Johansson, Creative Director

Usually we don’t read anything before we write down about what’s going on in our own minds when we make a runway review, but in this case we’re glad we did: the ‘swolen face’ inspiration is just too funny, but the press release made more sense to us, at Mimi Berlin.

Anyway; In our opinion Acne Studios created very cuddly nerds; a species that could be studied by a, probably not so much nerdy, audience who were seated on benches in a lecture hall. We imagine it must have been something like a biological-fashion-anthropologie-class experience, Fun! We wished we were there. (also because we fancy the designs by Acne Studios very much)

This post makes us think of our former post on Botanical Models

Silk Satin Bomber Jacket

Silk Satin Bomber Jacket

The Resort 2016 shows for women came before the men’s pret-a-porter Spring 2016 fashion shows. What these “seasons” have in common is the (Chinese) Silk Satin Bomber Jacket. For men it is Louis Vuitton who really embraced this jacket the most: The Bomber’s were full force shiny, bright colored or in pastels and heavily embroidered. As you can see in the images above, LV was certainly not the only fashion house to show this garment. The jackets for women are more demure, and with a little less frequency seen. Also the fit is more retro eighties: Cropped to the waist. Maybe we’ll see them more and embelleshed at the women’s pret-a-porter shows for Spring 2016? We think so! For sure!

Fall 2015 Prêt-à-Porter: The Cape

Fall 2015 Prêt-à-Porter: The Cape

Last month the fashion shows for Fall 2015 were held in New York, Paris, London and Milan, this Ruway Review is about: Capes. we noticed this garment earlier in one of our reports for fall 2014 but the designers aren’t finished with the cape yet…Fall 2015 Prêt-à-Porter: The CapeDuro Olowu Fall 2015, illustrated by DOT.

On the contrary; we’ve noticed a lot of capes on the runway for Fall 2015. It’s dramatic silhouette, with the ability to add a historical touch to any outfit, were seen in traditional black but also checkered and in flashy dessins. Below some examples of these, unhandy over-coats, gathered and categorized for you.

Fall 2015 Pret-a-Porter; Kanye West x Adidas Originals

Fall 2015 Pret-a-Porter; Kanye West x Adidas Originals

Adidas Originals teamed up with music producer/artist Kanye West. The (gossip/tabloid) world seems to trip over anything Mr West does (Remember the plain white “hiphop t-shirt” débacle on his collaboration collection with APC ? They still write about his outbust towards Taylor Swift at the Grammy Awards in 2009.) And there will be a lot of fuzz again over the Kanye West x Adidas Originals collaboration for sure. Spring 2015 Prêt-à-Porter: Sheer Madness

Spring 2015 Prêt-à-Porter: Sheer Madness

At the Summer shows for 2015 there was a lot of body to be seen through the sheer  layers of fabric. Nothing new we hear you say; No, agreed, the use of transparent fabrics aren’t new, but the shape they come in this season are; they are extravagant in a romantic way. (Mind you, these are no brides you see below!) The designers did go wild with their imagination and used tons of fabric to create over-the-top, floor-lenght dresses for us to strut on the streets next Summer.

No Brides

Lace

Covered from top to toe in Lace.  Lace is still going strong on the runways, has been  since Winter 2011. Romantic at Zimmerman. Jumpsuits at Ungaro. Unfinished lace punk at Yamamoto. We also noticed models to be covered in Broderie Anglaise, which is less transparent but from the same romantic family as lace: >see that HERE on this blog

Netting

Taking it to extremes with netted-like fabrics and embellishments. To-the-office netting at Leroy, Oversized at Balenciaga and Anrealage. Alberta Ferretti took it to the next level using extra embellishment to create an über-garden-fence-dress

Print

Sheer beauty with striped layering at Dries van Noten. Accessible dots and stripes at Galliano and Maison Rabih Kayrouz. Color-blocking with ruching at Valentino
